Windham’s Helping Hands has launched our Back to School Program, which supports students in our community facing varying degrees of need.
Through this program, we aim to ensure every student starts the school year with the supplies and essentials they need to succeed. Your generosity can make a meaningful difference for a local child.

Choose an item or two that you would like to purchase for a student within our community.   After purchasing the item(s), please label them with the student code and drop them off at the designated school or the Town Office on or before August 20th.

Each school will have a bin in the entryway where you can leave your gift or gift certificate.

This is how the Windham’s Helping Hands “Back to School” program began

Twenty-one years ago, Windham’s Helping Hands began with one simple, generous question. Ruth-Anne Calandra, a Windham resident, walked into Golden Brook School and asked what she could purchase to help the children who didn’t get to experience the excitement of receiving new back-to-school items.

She had seen firsthand how a few new outfits, shoes, or notebooks gave her own children confidence and joy as they began the school year. Ruth-Anne wanted to make sure every child in Windham had that same opportunity.

From that thoughtful gesture, Windham’s Helping Hands “Back to School” program was born. Over the years, it has grown into something far beyond what Ruth-Anne ever imagined—an organization that now supports members of our community in so many meaningful ways, all year long.
